Congratulations to Rittik Deb, a PhD student at Prof.Rohini Balakrishnan's Lab for winning the Commended Poster Award of Commonwealth Science Conference 2014

Here is a brief summary of his work. To understand the scope of female choice it is essential to examine how individuals sample potential mates in nature. Theoretically it has been predicted that the optimal strategy for sampling should be simultaneous sampling of multiple mates in dense aggregations or leks. In this study Rittik has examined (using empirical approach) the ecological context of mate sampling using the tree cricket Oecanthus
henryi
