CES has a field station located in Kadari village near Kudremukh National Park to serve on-going field studies on habitat and community ecology, bioacoustics and animal behavior in and around tropical evergreen forests of the Western Ghats of Southern Karnataka.

The field station is a rented bungalow within an areca nut plantation in the village. There are separate living quarters for men and women (six rooms in total), electricity and running water. The field station is located about 5-6 km from the entrance gate of Kudremukh National Park. The nearest town is Karkala (about 15 km) and the nearest airport and railway station is Mangalore (an hour and half by road). There are excellent local bus services from both places, at least during the day. The nearest major hospital (with available anti-venom for snake bite) is in Manipal (also a little over an hour’s drive). There is a smaller hospital in Karkala as well as local dispensaries in Bajagoli village (4-5 km away). Currently, there are no permanent field staff living in the field station and it remains locked when there are no researchers working there. There are no major cooking facilities in the field station but good food is available in the local restaurants and Renuka Hotel (about 0.5 km away) regularly caters to our needs.
